Dallas law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support the Property Tax division of the firm.  Ideal candidate has the ability to work with minimum supervision, anticipate “next step” and possible problems that might arise as a case nears completion.  Ability to capture and bill to clients the majority of time worked on projects to clients with a minimum of administrative time and exercise good independent judgment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review pleadings and discovery (answers/objections to interrogatories, responses/objections to requests for production and/or admission, etc.)
  • Daily interface with clients, attorneys, opposing counsel, tax consultants and courts
  • Consistent calculation and monitoring of critical dates and deadlines; maintain and/or update dockets/charts regarding mediation and written discovery
  • Maintain and manage all documents for production to opposing counsel and expert witnesses
  • Preparation of documents, date coordination and confirmation for depositions, hearings, mediations and trials; document pull and organization of all related materials by subject and witnesses
  • Obtain needed documentation from clients for ongoing litigation, discovery matters and materials needed for the development of the case
  • Work with opposing counsel, client, mediator, and any other relevant person(s) to coordinate dates to schedule mediation in various cases
  • Organize documentation, supervise timely production of documentation and supplementation of documentation each time documents are received
  • Equity analysis and comparison of various properties related to occupancy, number of units, square footage and appraisal value
  • Track ARB Board Order filing requests
  • Obtain needed documents and initial offers for settlement conferences from tax consultants and/or clients
  • Organize produce documents and settlement offers prior to settlement conference
  • Prepare case development charts for settlement conferences

Skills and Qualifications:

  • ABA-approved paralegal studies; minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Prior law firm experience is strongly preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of Texas Civil Rules of Procedure, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Evidence and Texas Rules of Court-Local, knowledge of docketing critical dates
  • Proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel, WordPerfect and Lexis
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization skills with attention to detail
  • Analysis of due dates, which is very critical in litigation cases
  • Date analysis and monitoring
